Dr. Joe Thomas

Visiting Professor

Dr Joe Thomas is currently working as the Professor of Public Health, and the National Course Convenor at the Institute of Health and Management in Rosanna, Victoria, Australia. He is an accomplished institution builder, academic, diplomat and a global leader in Public Health, Rights and Social Development. Dr Thomas is active in Global Health and Social Development for more than 25 years. As a senior consultant to WHO HQ Geneva, Dr Thomas provided technical support to the Gender, Equity and Human Rights team during its transition period to meet donor and in-house obligations, fill the human resource gap and provide conceptual and operational guidance to establish the unit. He has led multi-country (Eleven countries) projects on HIV related stigma, discrimination and rights, and ageing in developing countries (twenty-two countries). As the Director of UNAIDS Technical Support Facility- Dr Thomas has Developed dynamic networks with Global Fund, WB, UNHCR, IOM, UNAIDS, UNFPA and UNICEF.  During 2019-21, Dr Thomas worked as the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Sustainability Studies at the MIT World Peace University, where he has supervised the establishment of 10 new schools. He is also heading the School of Public Health and the School of Sustainability Studies.
