Educational and professional background
Dr. Salman Khan R., MBBS, MPH, MBA, is a medical doctor and public health professional with more than seven years of experience in infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), research, policy and digital health. He serves as Senior Technical Advisor and Resource Mobilisation Lead at ReAct Africa and as a Consultant in Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence with Dure Technologies.
His work includes technical assistance, health-systems strengthening, resource mobilisation and international collaboration in low- and middle-income countries. He leads projects across African countries in AMR, AMS and health systems. He has supported the development of National Action Plans on AMR in Iraq, Pakistan, Zambia and Yemen in collaboration with Ministries of Health, WHO Country Offices and international partners.
He leads the ASPIRE project, which strengthens antimicrobial stewardship in healthcare facilities in Zambia and Kenya through digital interventions, clinical decision support and capacity building. His wider work covers AMR governance, policy, research and resource mobilisation. At Dure Technologies, he contributes to digital health and AI solutions designed to improve healthcare delivery, decision-making and health systems.
Earlier in his career, he provided technical support to the World Health Organization for India's National Tuberculosis Programme and worked in monitoring and evaluation for a drug-resistant tuberculosis project in Delhi. He has also completed public health research and technical assignments, including proposal work, for the Global Fund, WHO and the World Bank.
Why I chose GIPH and my programme
As a medical doctor, I wanted to look beyond clinical practice and understand health at the population level. I was interested in public health policy and programmes, the way health systems function across countries, and how research evidence can be translated into programmes and policy.
GIPH offered an international learning environment with experienced faculty and professionals who had worked with international organisations and were actively engaged in global health, research and policy. This gave me the exposure, practical knowledge and foundation I was looking for in an MPH programme.
My experience at GIPH
My MPH at GIPH was a turning point in my professional journey. Learning from faculty and international experts brought practical public health experience into the classroom. Discussions, interactions and different perspectives took learning beyond textbooks and helped me understand how public health work can make a difference in people's lives.
The programme encouraged me to look beyond clinical medicine and explore health systems, research and policy. The guidance and support I received gave me the confidence to work in international public health. The foundation built at GIPH continues to support my work on national health policies, AMR initiatives across Africa and digital health and AI solutions.
I am grateful to the faculty and the entire GIPH team for their guidance and encouragement. GIPH connected academic learning with real-world public health practice and prepared us for work beyond the classroom. I am proud to be an alumnus and proud to see the institute continue to prepare the next generation of public health professionals.
