Dr. Lal has led and contributed to major public health initiatives across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States. His leadership portfolio includes senior roles with globally recognized organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), The Global Fund, and several intergovernmental, non-governmental, and private sector institutions.
His work has focused on strengthening health systems, building global partnerships, and guiding countries in designing and implementing national health programs.
Current Roles
Dr. Lal currently serves as the Professor and Head of Public Health at the Global Institute of Public Health (GIPH), where he plays a key role in shaping academic programs and mentoring future public health leaders.
He is also the Director of ReAct Asia Pacific, leading regional efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). At GIPH, he heads both the AMR Unit and the One Health Unit, driving interdisciplinary approaches to emerging global health challenges.
Research, Policy & Program Impact
Dr. Lal has made significant contributions to global public health through his work in communicable diseases, particularly tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and malaria. He has been actively involved in the development and revision of global and national health guidelines and has led innovative interventions that have reached millions of people worldwide.
His expertise extends to health financing, grant management, program evaluation, and operational research. He has successfully mobilized resources, developed high-impact proposals, and established large-scale public-private partnerships to strengthen health systems.
Entrepreneurship & Initiatives
In addition to his institutional roles, Dr. Lal is the Founder President of the Global Foundation for Health and Hygiene, USA. Through this platform, he continues to promote innovation, partnerships, and global collaboration in health and hygiene initiatives.
Academic Background
Dr. Lal holds a medical degree (MBBS), along with advanced qualifications including a Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a PhD from Leiden University, Netherlands. His multidisciplinary academic background enables him to bridge clinical practice, public health, and management effectively.
Teaching & Mentorship
As an educator, Dr. Lal has mentored numerous PhD, MPH, and MBA students across multiple universities worldwide. He is known for his ability to guide scholars in research, leadership, and practical implementation of public health solutions.

Dr. Lal has an extensive portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to global health literature. He has traveled to over 75 countries for professional engagements, reflecting his wide-reaching impact in global health.
He has also played a significant role in media and public communication, having presented over 500 episodes of India’s first weekly health show on a global television platform. His creative pursuits include writing novels, short stories, blogs, and contributing as an editor and columnist for prominent publications.
