Prof. Kutty earned his MD in Pediatrics from the University of Kerala, an MPhil in Applied Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and an MPH from Harvard University.

He serves as Research Director at the Amala Institute of Medical Sciences and the Amala Cancer Research Centre in Thrissur.
